LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings Incredible Women!
Fall is a great time of year; indeed the crowning glory
of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of toil and labor. I
hope that you
are beginning to see the fruits of your labor and it has exceeded all
of your expectations!
As for TEW, things are in full swing and September
will be a very busy month. This is a wonderful time to get involved and
become acquainted
with your fellow members. I have listed some events that will take place,
and I encourage you to become involved!
September 14th, Monthly Meeting
Jeann Howse has once again planned a
great meeting. Our speaker will be Dr. Jill
Carroll of Rice University. She will discuss "Effects of
Religious Beliefs on Politics".
This should prove to be very interesting this close to a national election!
Also, the grant recipients will attend, and be presented with our contributions
to them.
September 18th, Federation Gala
Diane Finch, Past President, will represent TEW and be honored as our
Woman of Excellence. Several of us will be attending to celebrate a
wonderful accomplishment for Diane. Hooray for Diane, we are proud
of you!
September 22nd, President’s
Dinner
Place to be announced. If you have not yet attended a dinner this year,
I would encourage you to go. It is a wonderful way to get to know one
another better.
September 28th, Women on the Move Reunion Dinner
Calling all former Women on the Move®!
As you know, this is our 20-year anniversary, so we are having
a special Reunion Dinner! This will be
an event that you will not want to miss! The event will be held at
Damian’s downtown. The committee is putting together tables with
your class and would like your participation. Please contact Margo
Snider to confirm your attendance.
Last, but certainly not least, we are looking
for new worker bees for the 2005 board. Bonnie
Berube is our incoming
President, and is seeking
eager individuals to carry the torch. The following positions are available,
and we would be elated if you would like to become involved and make
a difference.
Sheila Cox-Manning will be chairing the nominating committee.
Please contact her if you would like more information.
Here are the specific responsibilities for each position.
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Vice President, Membership
- Vice President, Programs

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM
The following letter is from a young lady who was in the mentoring
program. You'll have a great feeling after you read it.
Hello Ms. Holt!
I am at Rice, and I am having a wonderful time.
Today is my third day of classes, after an exciting week-long orientation
week, and I am having soooo much fun. Orientation week was a
blast; it was very hectic and draining, but I have already made
a lot of friends.
My room was even better than I expected. I have a lot of space,
good lighting, and all of my stuff fit. It looks really nice!
I will definitely have to send you a picture of how I set up
my room. My roomie and I get along very well, and we have a
lot of fun together.
My classes are all great! I am taking calculus, economics, international
relations, intro to golf, a seminar on the culture of war, psychology,
and Leadership Rice. I have decided to start off as a economics/managerial
studies double major, and look into going into business or law. I am already learning
so much.
My Leadership Rice class is amazing. Dr. Lieberman is wonderful.
She is such a lively instructor, and I can see why she was a
Woman On The Move®. She reminds me a lot of you. I am going
to get a lot from her class; I can already tell just after one day.
That is how great of an impression she has made. I went up to
her on yesterday after class, and told her that I knew you and
the expression on her face was priceless, you two must go way back because she was
delighted at the mention of your name.
I am going to have so much fun this year.
Love,
Jessica Faith Carter
(The Mrs. Lieberman she is referring to is Susan Lieberman
(WOM 1992) who now teaches at Rice University.)
