LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
The date for Women on the Move® has been set for October 20th 2005. Please circulate the information about applications and let Margo Snider know if you are a member of a group that might have potential applicants. We need every member to sell tickets and to obtain underwriters. The organizations and students that benefit from the proceeds are numerous. TEW provides a great service to the promotion of the success of women. The Mentoring Program has received donations of computers for the students. The students are still in need of printers. If you have a printer or want to donate for the purchase of one, please contact Beth Ann Scher. Mary Ann Collier is in the process of developing a survey for the membership. The board will use the results of the survey to assist in future planning. We need you input and I hope that each of you will participate. We have agreements with Randalls and Kroger for a payment to TEW based on purchases by you. Please see a board member for information. I just returned from a national conference for The Women's Food Service Forum. There were 2400 participants, including men. The overall goal was to provide attendees a great opportunity to bridge gaps in professional development, to network and to develop their potential into lasting results. TEW provides those opportunities to members, Women on the Move®, college students, organizations that support women and the mentoring programs. Remember that the member that brings the most guests this year will receive a paid membership for 2006. See you at the meeting.

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM![]()
The Ladies of Excellence went to Lamar University on a very successful field trip. Our tour guides were very warm and helpful and the girls showed genuine interest and were well behaved. We had a total of 38 girls who attended the trip to Lamar. We divided the girls into two groups with tour guides who are Admissions Representatives for the university. The tour guides provided lots of valuable information throughout the tour about the university, and college in general. I think good emphasis was placed on striving for academic excellence early to ensure an opportunity for college admission and scholarships. Many girls asked relevant and interesting questions. In addition, we even ran into a former student of Aldine Ninth grade who was an LOE and LOD member. She is currently a junior at Lamar and she had encouraging words for our students. After the tour, the students had an opportunity to eat in the dining hall among college students, and this was a real kick for them. I was very pleased with the behavior and the dining hall manager came over and commended the girls for their behavior and their interest in the college as well. All in all, I felt the trip was a huge success. The girls had the opportunity to be exposed to a very good university that has a lot to offer. I truly feel that many will use this experience in a positive way and begin thinking about their college pursuits. Some people might say it is premature to take the girls to colleges but I've always felt that "what they could dream, they could achieve"! Learning early what it takes to get in just might stimulate some to buckle down and prepare before they get serious in the 11th or 12th grades and haven't taken the right courses or done what they need to do to be admitted where they WANT to go! Both Westbury High School girls and the Galveston High School are looking forward to their end of the year Etiquette Banquets. Our own dear Annie Cater will instruct the Westbury group at a luncheon at the Four Seasons on Fri., April 29th while the Galveston girls will end their year on May 5 th . Both Aldine groups of young women celebrate the end of the year with a May 11th late afternoon (4:00pm – 6:30pm ) Recognition Banquet. The TEW Mentoring program is completing another successful year of helping these young women look to their future. - Beth Ann Scher
