LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I hope that each of is having a great summer. I have visited with many members that have had great vacations and many more have plans for the rest of the summer. Margo Snider and her committee have selected the 2005 Women on the Move® and the announcement of the names appears in the newsletter. Once again the recipients are great and I know each one of you will look forward to meeting them and participating in honoring them at the Women on the Move® Luncheon, October 20th. The board has been busy planning the Summer Serenade that will be held at The Hallmark on August 17 th , at 7:00 p.m.. The Serenade will feature Shannon Perry, singer and songwriter and Ideal Strings from the HSPVA. The proceeds will benefit the TEW Operating Budget. Please buy a ticket and invite a guest. It will be a great evening. We are limited to 120 guests so please buy your tickets early. You will be receiving an Evite with the information. TEW is selling raffle tickets for a great gift basket. You will be able to see it at the regular TEW meetings and events and can buy tickets. The price is one ticket for $5.00 or five tickets for $20.00. Thanks to Shelia Manning, Jeann Howse and Elaine Ousley-Nevarez for obtaining the contents and assembling the basket. The drawing for the basket will be at the Women on the Move® Luncheon. “Laughter is the currency of hope”, Vikor Frankl. I hope you joined the other members at the great social that Sheridan planned for the July 12 meeting at Top Drawer Lingerie Shop in Uptown Park. Remember that the member that brings the most guests to the regular meetings will receive a free TEW membership for 2006.

NEWS AMONG FRIENDS
Sally Andrews is being honored at the Federation of Houston Professional Women's Quarterly Event on July 25th. Florence Kusnetz is the subject of a new book by author Carole Bell Ford. The title is "The Women of CourtWatch, Reforming a Corrupt Family Court System". It covers her biography and the years she spent in law school, and her twenty years of practicing law, and trying to bring family mediation to Houston. But it also tells the compelling story of the corruption of the Houston family courts and her part in the efforts to clean them up. It is a good read and includes gender issues in the law and a broad look at women in the legal environment. It is being published by the University of Texas Press. You can read about it and order it at: www.utexas.edu/utpress/books/forwom.html Then click on "Table of Contents and Excerpt", and then scroll down to the Introduction. She would love to hear from you if you have a chance to read it. |

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM
Hey, what happened to the summer? It won't be long before the girls will be heading back to school. Now is the perfect time to contact one of the mentoring programs and offer some of your time and/or knowledge and experience. Below is a leter that Linda Holt received from a former Lady of Distiction. Makes it all seem worthwhile. Dear Ms. Linda Holt, Doris Chacon
