LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

I attended the Aldine Mentoring Program's end of the year event. What a great experience!

I wish each member could have been there to see the great works that are performed by the girls, the mentors, the faculties and the TEW Members who support the programs. I met several of the mentors that work at the schools and I am so impressed that in addition to the heavy loads teachers have, these teachers and counselors find the time to support these girls. Westbury High School and Ball High School in Galveston are building the same kinds of programs. I also met past scholarship winners that are attending college and making great successes. Thank to all of you that have supported these programs. In addition to time, the programs can use financial support to build and continue to grow. We need each member to support the mentoring programs and Women of the Move.

The board is planning a great fundraiser for August 17, 2005. Each of you will be hearing more about it. It will be a musical event that will feature Shannon Perry, songwriter, and singer. In addition, a quartet from the Houston High School for the Performing Arts will be performing. I am excited about the event and am very pleased that The Hallmark will be hosting the event. The funds will go to TEW for operational funds that will support the publication of a new brochure and other communication needs. The board has been great in planning this event. Plan to attend, sell tickets and support TEW.

The President's Dinner will be on Thursday, June 23. I have gotten to know new members and reacquainted with old members. If you would like to attend, please contact me. A member of the board assists with these dinners. Louella Hundt will be assisting me in June.

We also have a new member, so please welcome Nancy Colmenares.

Remember that the member that brings the most guests for the year 2005 will receive their dues free in 2006. Jeanne has a great program for June and Sheridan is planning a great social for July.

We still need printers for the students. Please remember to use the Randalls and Kroger programs that will rebate money to TEW.

I quote M.H. McKee: “Integrity is one of several paths. It distinguishes itself from the others because it is the right path and the only one upon which you will never get lost.”

I am reminded of this in all my associations with TEW members. You set the standards.

TEW MEMBER OFF TO IRAQ

Dear Fellow Professionals:

I have so few moments left I apologize for the mass mailing. I finished up at the Presidential Commission on Intelligence capabilites of the U.S. regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction on March 31, and have now decided to go to Iraq. I leave for Baghdad on Monday. (she has gone already)

I will be there as a civilian contractor working for the Departments of State and Defense. I will be helping to set up the Iraqi Police Force. This is probably the most dangerous assignment I've taken yet, so any positive vibrations, ESP, prayers, etc., are welcome. I will be initally be going for 3 months, but the contract may extend to a year. All the very best to you, and please take care of America while I'm gone :)

Most sincerely,
Shelley
