LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I hope each of you and your families have survived Hurricane Rita. I know that once again many of the members worked long hours during this time and that some of the members' families sustained losses. My thoughts are with you. The Women on the Move® Luncheon is on October 20, 2005. Please support the Luncheon and purchase tickets if you have not all ready done so. Margo Snider and committee have planned a great event. The 2005 Women on the Move® are listed in the newsletter. The Houston Chronicle has given great coverage and has been a very strong supporter. Remember that we are selling door prize tickets at the Luncheon, for a gift basket. You may buy tickets from the mentoring students. The price for the tickets is $5.00 for one or $20.00 for five. I will see you at the Luncheon. If you have not responded to the Membership Survey, please do so and return to Mary Ann Collier. Your input is very important for the board to plan for next year and the future. We need more news about the members. Forward any news about you or other members to Cay Dickson at ocayd@ocay.com or ocayd@swbell.net. Remember that the member that brings the most guests to the monthly meetings will receive a free membership for 2006. Be sure and use the TEW cards for Randalls and Kroger when you shop. We receive funds that go to the scholarship fund. You can begin again. Your resilient spirit is ready to sore. Eileen McDargh.

Virginia Mampre, Mampre Media International, has just completed a cablecast deal with ESPN for the telecast of the 2-hour special, DCI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, which had its first run on 9/6/05 from 9:00 - 11:00 PM in prime time right after the Monday Night Football special. It was repeated on 9/20/05, plus at least one other telecast. Her business is currently working on other television projects including annual holiday specials for national broadcast, prime-time documentaries and series.
Each year, the Mentoring Program arranges to take the girls on Career Tours. They go to all kinds of businesses and learn about what it takes to be in that field. They are all over the map on their interests, so if you would like to offer your business or suggest one that would participate, please let us know.
If you had any doubts about the significance of Career Day, read this:
Hi Mrs. Holt, My name is Olga Alejos I am a Sophomore and a member of the Ladies Of Distinction.
The reason I am writing this is because last year while I was a member of L.O.E., my mentor Ms. Maria Zarzoza and Mrs.Smith (after-school enrichment program coordinator) turned in my name to go to audition to be in a video for NASA and was chosen to be in it.
After that I have been thinking about my career and what it is that I really want to do, I had written down psychology, but now I'm looking more at broadcasting. Basically, what I am trying to ask is if it is possible for my career tour to be more into something dealing with broadcasting? Maybe going and meeting the anchors for Channel 45 Univision? I look up to them because they are Hispanic and do a good job. Any of the other channels, Channel 11, Channel 2, etc., would be great, too. I don't know which on;, what I do know is that I like the idea of pursuing a career in broadcasting.
Sincerely,
Olga Alejos
Mentor: Mrs. Barr
