LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings to All: You would think this was the middle of August, rather than the middle of April, what with this heat wave we are having. I will be traveling back to New York and Connecticut this month so I hope to be able to enjoy some cooler weather. But speaking of the heat, things are really heating up in Montgomery County and the momentum is building regarding the formation of our sister organization, Texas Executive Women-North. On April 25, twelve dynamic women met at the invitation of Karen Smith and Pamela Stein to begin the organization process and establishing committees. These first members of TEW North will be the cornerstone of this new group. We are so excited about what the future holds for TEW-North and will continue to keep the membership updated with progress reports. Hats off to Karen and Pam, who have been the impetus for forming this group! Our May meeting will be one you won't want to miss. In breaking from tradition somewhat and to celebrate Mother's Day, we would love for our members to invite their daughters, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, nieces or any young woman who holds a special place in your heart. The topic of the meeting will be “You're Wearing THAT?” This is the title of a delightful and insightful book by New York Times Bestselling author, Deborah Tannen. It is based on the relationships between mothers and daughters but can be expanded to include other younger relations or friends. Even though I don't have any daughters , I do have 2 step daughters, 2 daughters-in-law and 4 granddaughters so I felt somewhat compelled to read Ms. Tannen's book and WOW, could I ever relate! The book and the topic have received a lot of press in the last few months and both were explored in depth on ABC's Primetime. The River Oaks Bookstore will be back to review/discuss this and other related books. So come and join us at this very special meeting, invite as many special young women as you like, we would love to see the room filled with bright, young faces. This is a wonderful way to introduce TEW to a younger generation, THEY ARE OUR FUTURE! Other news this month ... The date for this year's Women on the Move® Luncheon is Friday, November 17. All of you should have received a letter from Margo including an honoree nomination form. The selection process begins in June, so please consider nominating one of those outstanding women that you know. One outstanding woman that we all know, Bonnie Berube, is featured this month in our member profile. Bonnie is our Women of Excellence honoree. This gala evening presented by The Federation of Houston Profession Women will be held on Saturday, September 16. Watch for further details. And a good note to end on ... Beverly Kaufman's Scholarship Committee met on April 13 and awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 30 deserving young ladies in our mentoring programs. This is the largest number of applicants ever received and the largest amount in scholarship funds ever awarded. THIS IS WHAT TEW IS ALL ABOUT! Aren't you proud to be a TEW member? Barbara |
