LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Beverly Kaufman

August President's Message:

We are fast approaching the big day, our annual Women on the Move® Luncheon. And we have an impressive, fresh new crop of deserving WOM honorees that merit our strong efforts to make the event our best ever.

I have long held the philosophy that we do not ask others to do what we do not demonstrate we are willing to do ourselves. Therefore, I'm working hard to sell sponsor tables for the WOM Luncheon. We need to derive a respectable amount of funds to assure our mentoring programs have the money needed to provide the attractive activities that so benefit our participants. And we need a substantial amount to provide scholarships to the students who aspire to higher education as the fruition of our efforts. And, lastly, we also want to contribute to an endowment that will assure these practices continue indefinitely.

So let us all resolve to welcome our ten brand new members to the TEW fold and encourage their active membership with us in the future. And please give Margo Snider some special help in obtaining sponsors for the WOM Luncheon. Let's make it a sell out! It's time to shell out for the good of the order!

Beverly Kaufman

President

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentoring

As program chairs, teachers, counselors and students zoom through the summer months, work is already underway for this coming year's programs for Ladies of Distinction, Ladies of Excellence, Career Women of The Future at Westbury and Galveston's Ball High School.

If you've got a little time and some extra wisdom and experience you'd like to share with these young ladies, just contact any of the chairwomen to volunteer. You'll be glad you did.

Learn more about the programs from the 2006 Mentoring Video. You will gain a true perspective of what the program is about and how it has affected the lives of so many young women.

UPCOMING MEETING MEMO

August 14 - Yenta Girl - Professional Matchmaker Nina Friedman has been matchmaking for decades. She is a firm believer that in order to get what you want, you have to work at it, and romance is no different. Nina acts as your secret weapon in the battle to find that "special someone".

Yenta is a Yiddish word referring to a Busybody woman, a woman who passionately runs around chatting with people to make matches. Hey, you may not need a match, but chances are someone you know might. Come enjoy this lively topic and unique approach to finding the right person in your life. Visit her website at www.ninafriedman.com.

If your email address changes, please send new address to mmoy@uh.edu . Electronic communication has been quite effective for sending information about TEW programs.

Upcoming Meetings:
September 11 - “Dress for Success” - Nancy Levicki, DFSH Co-founder and President, and WOM 2005, will be the speaker for the September meeting.

Members are asked to bring some appropriate items to the meeting on Tuesday, September 11. All items will be donated to DFSH to distribute to deserving women. What to bring: DFSH accepts suits and pantsuits, black handbags, closed toe shoes, blouses and unused panty hose. Please bring clothing on hangers.

Nancy will share with us collaborations among various organizations that support the DSFH program and all of the groups that benefit from it. DFSH has been a tremendous influence on the high school girls in our mentoring programs by making presentations and showing them appropriate career and professional dress.

Final meetings of the year:

November 13 – Monthly Meeting
December 11 – Christmas Party (details to come)
