LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
February President's Message: Your Texas Executive Women Board of Directors met on January 29 and outlined plans for the coming year. It was a very productive meeting with many new ideas and frank discussion about approaches to our success. President-Elect Carolyn Wyly and her Scholarship Committee are already making plans for the distribution of $15,000 in academic scholarships to qualified mentor program applicants. This figure can be increased through your personal contributions, and your donations in honor of or in memory of others and significantly bolster the total. Vice President Programs Mamie Moy , who was unanimously elected at the meeting, shared programs planned for the coming months on subjects ranging from gardening to gemstones and from motivation to managing banks and zoos. Stay tuned for a diverse and captivating series of talks to inform and entertain you. Vice President Membership Genora Boykins , who was also unanimously elected at the meeting, is committed to the recruitment and nurturing of new members, while serving the needs of our veteran activists. And she needs your help through the inviting of guests who are potential members to our meetings. Vice President Mentoring Theresa Chang reported on the programs planned by our three mentoring programs at Aldine, Westbury and Ball High Schools. The respective directors Linda Holt, Katherine Hudgins, Carolyn Wyly and Margo Snider are committed to the continued training and guidance of deserving young women, and the Board adopted a budget to finance those programs. Vice President Special Events Margo Snider is already busily planning the Women on the Move Luncheon in the Fall. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser are critical to the financing of our mentoring and scholarship efforts. Vice President Communications Bonnie Berube has ambitious plans to reach out to the corporate community for sponsorships and foundation contributions to further our cause. Happy New Year to all !! I'm leaving for Iraq again Friday...for a few days... be back at the end of the month. And then into a new house. So great to hear from you Linda!! i just got on a computer here. Through the window I can hear the weary, mournful drone of the islam prayers from the mosque speakers. Its rainy and gray here, with stray bullets breaking the rhythmic pattern of rain drops. It's strange to be back, something familiar and welcoming about it. Yet the newness is gone, for now I know what i'm jumping back into. Alas, the dirt, the mud, the browness is all the same -- nothing has changed there. Its' cool but not cold. And even the loud A/C-Heater blowing out hot air can't stop the trailer from shaking when the mortars hit.
