LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Beverly Kaufman

July President's Message:

Hooray for the Red, White and Blue! Doesn't the Fourth of July always get your patriotic juices flowing? It certainly does for me, and I earnestly hope your holiday is filled with plenty of the traditional aspects of the occasion, i.e. hot dogs, water sports and watermelon. For many of us, the middle of the week aspect means a sporadic celebration.

So consider the Fourth a good precursor to our TEW Summer Social on July 10 th, when our members can truly get out on the water for a great party. Get your reservations in to Sheridan Scott ASAP.

The bargain price of $40 will include your comfortable bus ride to the marvelous M/V Sam Houston, a scenic trip down the historic Houston Ship Channel and a delicious Cajun dinner on board.

We are grateful to the Port of Houston Authority and our own Argentina James for underwriting this special event. If you've never had this opportunity, it will give you a unique chance to see the epicenter of Houston's healthy economy. Wear your latest summer sports costume and practical boat shoes. Come to the party so we can wave at all those international seafarers onboard the many foreign ships docked along the cruise route. It promises to be great fun!

TEW is grateful for recent contributions to our scholarship fund by:  Stewart Title/Landata, Bracewell and Guilliani, Continental Airlines, Masterson Designs, Disney Productions, and the Port of Houston Authority.

Dress for Success!  Start identifying gently worn business suits in your closet (skirt or pant) and blouses for the collection planned at our September 11 meeting.  Details will follow on other acceptable items.  The Board of Directors voted at our last meeting to implement this project and may make it an annual event if enough members attend and participate.  Remember, up-to-date items in good condition are preferred.  These garments will be worn by job hopefuls on their interviews.

Beverly Kaufman

President

NEWS AMONG FRIENDS

We are always looking for TEW Member news. Tell us what you're doing, what your company is doing or what other TEW members are doing. This is the place to toot your own horn. Your response is always welcome. Just send any information or news about yourself or any other member to Mamie Moy at mmoy@mail.uh.edu.

Mark another honor up for Fulbright & Jaworski partner Linda Addison, named one of the country's top female lawyers by the National Law Journal. Addison is the only Houstonian tapped for the "50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America." Last year, the journal named her one of only 17 women on its list of the "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America."

Jo Rosenblum King's mother passed away on June 24. Paula Bohls also lost her mother recently. Our sympathy goes out to each of you.

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentoring

Sharon Seligman took a group of Ladies of Distinction members to the Houston Center of Photography for their tour. She reports they really "focused" on the field. See photos...

It's not too early to contact the mentoring chairpersons and see how you can use your knowledge and experience and contacts to add to the upcoming year's programs.

Learn more about the programs from the 2006 Mentoring Video. You will gain a true perspective of what the program is about and how it has affected the lives of so many young women.

Yenta is a Yiddish word referring to a Busybody woman, a woman who passionately runs around chatting with people to make matches.
