LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

January begins a new year for TEW with resolutions by your new board to further the goals of our organization building on the accomplishments of our predecessors. I have made such good friends and witnessed such generosity and support from the membership of TEW. I hope to share the same with both veteran and new members in this coming year as your President.

We have ten new members with our latest outstanding WOM awardees. Please join with me to welcome them to our meetings.  Our organization can only grow by introducing new members to friendships within our group and to the joy of mentoring young women to become future WOM.

Our mentoring programs are the heart of our organization, giving back as much to us as we give to them.  My main goal in 2008 is to obtain grants to achieve a solid financial footing for the growth of our mentoring programs, both existing and future.  To that aim Caterina Venitucci has agreed to accept the position of Director at Large, Grants. I ask that any of you with interest, expertise or contacts in this area share your knowledge with Caterina. Hopefully this can become a multiyear ongoing project for the TEW board.

As my grandmother told me many times, you only get back what you put in. In TEW I feel I've always gotten back much more than I've added.  Join with me in giving and receiving. Send in your renewal dues, come to our meetings, make new friends, support the WOM luncheon with table sales, and attend a mentoring session at Aldine, Westbury or Ball High Schools. Together we can achieve a great future.

Carolyn Wyly

President

NEWS AMONG FRIENDS

Michelle O'Michael's piece, Worlds of Knowledge Tree will be unveiled Friday, January 11th at the  El Centro College in downtown Dallas.  El Centro commissioned the sculpture celebrating the infinite new  worlds available to the students as a result of their El Centro Experience.

This sculpture was made possible through generous donations from Arlene and Marshall Hoffman and Bill Lipscomb of Blumenthal Sheet Metal both of Houston Texas and Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas, Texas.

TEW MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentoring

Make plans this year to spend some time with some of the truly amazing young ladies in these programs.

There's always something that can be done - large or small. A little bit of your time and experience can go a long way with the girls and the payoff is usually worth many times the investment.

Learn more about the programs from the 2006 Mentoring Video. You will gain a true perspective of what the program is about and how it has affected the lives of so many young women.
